Discover
Reminiscent of the hot springs that beckoned travellers over 100 years ago, the pulsating waterfalls and the mineral pool in the heart of the Banff spa soothe troubled spirits.
The Beginning
William Cornelius Van Horne had a vision to bring the beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains to the rest of the world. He commissioned blueprints for an impressive hotel to be built at the convergence of the Bow and Spray River, in what is now known as Canada's first National Park. Construction began in 1887 and the hotel publically opened on June 1, 1888.
By the start of the twentieth century, the Banff Springs luxury Hotel had developed into one of the top three mountain getaways in North America. Disaster struck in 1926 when the original wooden hotel burnt down. It was rebuilt larger and in its present appearance commencing in 1928.
Roaring Twenties and the Great Depression
Throughout the 1920s and 30s, the hotel was able to combine day-to-day hotel life with the concept of luxurious hotel living. The depression played a part in the 'golden era' as well.
Through the 1940s to 60s, the hotel struggled to reclaim the success it had before the war. The hotel went through a significant change, adapting to the economics of the time. Transportation, convenience and availability to monetary funds jointly changed the whole perspective of the hotel.
"Since we can't export the scenery, we'll have to import the tourists."
William Cornelius Van Horne
By the 70s, the hotel reached a pivotal point. For the first time, Banff Springs remained open for the winter season, becoming a year-round resort destination. The 80s then brought expansion and renovation back to the hotel.

Everyone was very helpful and happy to deal with. Danny who served us in the Banff Dome experience provided exceptional service and was very knowledgeable. In our opinion, he helped add to the already unbelievable experience that the dome provides. Wouldn’t have been the same without him!
MY wife and I had a short visit in Banff to celebrate Mothers Day

I experienced excellent hospitality and service throughout the property and from check-in to check-out.
My wife and I came to the hotel for a conference. Generally, the hotel stay was OK. Check-in was really easy, as was locating the room. However navigation around the hotel itself was a bit hard. The hotel was also difficult to navigate for my pregnant wife due to all the steps. The first room we had was quite small (for the price). My 8 months pregnant wife could barely turn around in the shower. When ordering room service, there was nowhere in the room to put the tray, so we had to eat and have all the meals sitting on the bed. The second room we got was absolutely fantastic. It was huge and on the corner. (we couldn't stay in our room for 3 nights due to how busy the hotel was and needed to make a 2nd booking). Public washrooms around the facility were not very well kept. On numerous occasions my wife or I went to the washroom, only to find clogged / unflushed toilets, garbage's overflowing, out of order faucets, etc. The food / drinks were great at all the hotel restaurants and bars. We ate at all the restaurants and had drinks with appetizers at rundle bar. All experiences were great at these locations. Overall, the stay was OK but due to the size of the room we had for 2 nights and washroom cleanliness, factoring in the very high price (of everything - even food and drinks), this is why i give the rating of 6.
Stayed for one night on our way across Canada & as soon as the hotel found out it was my brother’s 70th birthday trip they made sure he received a special cake, chocolates & 3 non alcoholic craft beers. Our view was spectacular & the Gold service on the 5th floor was amazing! Breakfast was delicious. We ordered room service rather than going to a restaurant & although it wasn’t anything unusual, the food was good & again the service was fantastic!
Great stay with warm and friendly service
